Who We Are

The Gisaro Muhoza Foundation (FGM Asbl) was established to perpetuate the memory, values and vision of Frédéric Isaac Gisaro Muhoza, an emblematic Congolese politician renowned for his commitment to peace, unity and development in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A native of the High Plateaux of South Kivu, Gisaro Muhoza established himself as one of the leading political figures of his generation. In 1972, he was elected National Deputy (member of parliament) for the territory of Uvira, where he stood out for his strong sense of leadership, his defence of the rights of local populations and his constant determination to promote peaceful coexistence between communities.

Throughout his political career, he worked actively for the recognition of citizens’ rights, social inclusion and the fair representation of marginalised populations. His commitment to dialogue and social cohesion earned him the respect of many communities in South Kivu, well beyond his own community.

A visionary and a man of conviction, Gisaro Muhoza firmly believed that sustainable development depended on education, social justice, solidarity and peaceful coexistence. His political and social action left a lasting mark on the Great Lakes region.

Following his tragic death in a road accident, a number of public figures, members of his family, colleagues and admirers decided to establish the Gisaro Muhoza Foundation in order to preserve his moral legacy and pursue his ideal of peace and progress.

Today, the Gisaro Muhoza Foundation remains a symbol of hope, civic engagement and social cohesion in the service of communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and beyond.
